Why We Run
Our mission is to help rebuild lives with compassion by providing shelter and services to prevent homelessness and empower people as they transition toward self-sufficiency.
Our vision is to serve as a national model for how a community cares for its homeless. We strive to break the cycle of homelessness by providing a place of belonging, life-changing programs, and a broad continuum of support to people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. The Light House is both a facility and a program. Physically located in a new 24,000 square foot facility in Annapolis, Maryland, we provide emergency shelter and transitional housing for individuals and families who are homeless as well as permanent supportive housing for women. We offer life-changing programs through a case management centered model that includes, counseling and referral services, basic life skills, and wellness and job training programs that help clients reclaim hope and independence in their lives. Our belief is that with the love and compassion of staff and volunteers we can make a huge difference in the lives of so many.

The Friends of the Light House is a community-based, 501(c)3 charitable organization responsible for hosting local events in support of the Light House. Through corporate sponsorship and fundraising, the Friends of the Light House is able to provide support to the Light House, located at 10 Hudson Street in Annapolis, and enable staff to provide much needed service to those most in need in Anne Arundel County.
Whether it’s running a half marathon, playing in a golf tournament, or attending a live auction gala, we are sure that you will find your niche among good friends and neighbors.
Last year alone, the Friends raised more than $160,000 for the Light House. For more information on how you may get involved with the Friends or to participate in one of our events, please email us: email@example.com.
With your support, and that of others like you, the Friends of the Light House Shelter will continue to be able to provide support to the Light House and enable its staff to provide much-needed services to the citizens of Anne Arundel County. Because the Friends of the Light House consists of volunteer board members and only one staff person, a full 90% of what we raise goes directly to support the operating expenses of the Light House.
